INDIA TODAY – Jodhpur III (w/ selfie…)
What’s it like on the streets of Jodhpur, India’s “blue city”? As this travelling photographer sees it, it’s not all black and white. There are lots of grays there, too…

There are little girls going home after school and there are oversized jugs bearing portraits, somewhere along the road that leads to the hilltop fort.

There are hard working people that can cook up a full meal right there in an open lot with little more than a pot and a spoon.

And if there are a few moments to spare, a quick game of cards with some buddies makes the day a better one.

Some of the more photogenic work includes folding bright, recently-dyed cloth, after sun-drying it in the open.

Of course, some are so young they need not worry – yet – about school or work. Today’s activity? Cartwheels!

And, finally, as some were clamoring for a selfie, this is as close as it gets (actually, it was taken by a random passer-by). Now, i wonder if you can tell which one is Alessandro?
Long overdue, i am finally finding some snippets of time to process my India photo files, taken about ten months ago. There are surprises to be had. More to come soon. Thanks for the visit!

Lovely photo essay, I love the two kids playing.
Thanks! Kids at play the world over make for outstanding – if sometimes difficult to catch – photo opportunities.
Wonderful photography Alessandro and I think I worked out the Selfie challenge. Cartwheels gets my vote today but the dyeing ladies are a close second.
Both shots you mention were taken within seconds of each other… The cartwheeling kids’ eyes – for some reason – were smothered black with kohl makeup. I did take a portrait, but it doesn’t really cut it for me.
Thanks, Andrew. Your feedback is always very welcome.
You have some nice moustaches Alessandro.
Thanks for the compliment! If truth be told, i do spend an hour each morning coiffing, preening and waxing them into shape…
You’re the guy on the right. Right. Another excellent series of photos.
Right: right. Thank you for the kind words, sir!
Daily life is different, and similar, around the globe. Selfie, yes, now I have to wonder which one is the photographer!
Same-same, they say in Thailand, and then they add: …but different. That sums it up quite nicely. And is enough to keep me trotting around the globe. Thanks, Bente!
The one on the left!!!!
I wish… 😉
Are you kidding!? I recognised you from the reader instantly 😀 Ma che bello. Bravo Alessandro for trusting another person with your camera 🙂
Trust i most definitely did. Perhaps a little too much so: the trusty camera was duly stolen on a train a few days later. But that’s another, sadder story. For now, we’re still in the good mood. 🙂 Thanks, Paula!
Ok, as long as we are in a good mood, Alessandro….
Ma cuando vuole mostrarmi Roma (for a change)? Mi manca. If you want some warm loving, pay me a visit today 😉
love the cartwheels shot!
Thanks Rudolph. A bit of luck certainly helped there…
You got a good passer-by photographer – great double-portrait!
Thanks. He was suggested by the first guy i asked – obviously the more talented photographer on that sidewalk. Thanks, Olli!
I like your India photos so much. Maybe also because they are in monochrome – like those I captured in India in 1974!
The two last ones are great – fine shadows and movement in the photo of the two young boys – and fine portrait of the two older boys;-)
Haha, thanks. I am processing these in mono, but the original files – in the raw format – akso contain all the color info. One day i may go back and reprocess them with punchy, slide-film feel to them. But for now, for me, it’s mono.
Thanks, Truels!
Your series of black and white photos on India are superb! a great pleasure to discover every time! beautiful portraits.
Merci beaucoup, mon ami. The colors in India are sometimes so bright, that they distract the viewer’s eye away from my intended subject. B&W fixes that in an effortless way…
Fantastic!
Thank you, Melissa!
A delightful photo essay, with each image strong in itself and adding to the whole. Well done. And I love the selfie with the man with that incredible beard!
Thanks Otto! Yes, incredible is quite the term. In fact, he spontaneously offered to pose for a portrait when he noticed my camera. I’m sure he is phtographed many times every day… Rightly so, i might add – he’s not only a truly handsome man, he is also a charming person.
superb work, Alessandro. I love the cartwheel one too – I think I am still capable of a cartwheel, but just barely!
Nice to see a photograph of you. : )
Thanks, Karen, I can pull off a cartwheel soso to ok. But if i try two, i get those pesky little lights orbiting my head… 😉
Fabulous as always! Love the kids doing cartwheels and the selfie (I think you’re on the right?) 😉
