PUERTO ESCONDIDO – the fish tales
Early in the morning, on the main beach in Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca, Mexico, something wonderful happens. The fishing boats come home from a night out. And it’s a fiesta!
All photos taken in january 2013.
I hope you enjoyed.

I used to live in a fishing village in Sumatra, and I loved watching the fishermen pull in their nets from the shoreline. There’s something very satisfying about working a job that yields tangible results.
So true… you can eat a fish, but you probably wouldn’t want to eat a photograph! 🙂
Thank you so much for your kind words, Traci
I like your choice to make them b&w – it emphasizes the shapes and structure and the story-telling.
Thanks. I find b&w works well with bold-shaped subject matter…
Makes me feel warm in my cold climate . . . and hungry for seafood. Love the shadow in that shot near the end!
Thanks, Ann. Oh, it’s plenty warm at seven a.m. You can’t even imagine the sweltering heat you get around noon…
The shark issue is very sad. Shark’s fin soup is a delicacy here but slowly attitudes are changing. Education helps but a carrot and stick approach is needed. These people have a living to make but I doubt if sharks are critical to the fishermen’s livelihood.
Thanks, Andrew. I’m sure attitudes will change here soon, too. They used to eat turtles by the shipload here, and that’s been mostly eradicated in the time lapse of one generation. So let’s hope for the best. Also, let’s keep blowing the whistle…
Complimenti Alessandro, ottime foto!
Grazie, Krossmann
Besos.
wonderful group of shots!
Thanks. And, i had fish that day for lunch… 😉
Those are really quite amazing shadows. A wonderful series.
It was one case of life parading at its loveliest, and me, just taking it all in… Thanks, Karen.
