INDIA on FILM – the people
A few years back i travelled through part of India. I had a film camera and i took a few photos each day. I saw lovely places, i met wonderful people. Here are but a few.
Even only a few years ago, my photography was very different from what it is today. And i can’t completely deny a little nostalgia for when i used to take pictures for myself and myself ony. In order to prompt my memory, rather than to try to impress others.
This is my 200th post. It’s been a long, interesting trip. And, with any luck, it’s far from over. Thank you all for making this worthwhile.
I hope you enjoyed.

eccezionali, come sempre 🙂
Sempre gentilissimo – grazie di cuore! 🙂
Enjoyed? Of course, Alessandro: wonderful series, photography and smiles. And congratulations with the 200! Looking very much forward to the next 200! 🙂
India is a paradise for photographers and these are heavenly. Kudos, Alessandro.
Thanks, Andrew. So true, and the goodness of the Indian people feels almost contagious…
Thanks, Bente! Will focus more on quality than on quantity for the next 200, so please be patient… 🙂
What a great 200th post! Simply love each and every images. Please, continue your trip, and let us enjoy your views.
(I had to dig out my ‘similar’ post http://wp.me/p1jVlh-7P which you have seen already. 😉 )
Thanks, Olli. Yes, i remember your images – up close and personal – just lovely. 🙂
And of course, the trip goes on…
Happy people follow you wherever you go!
Haha! Actually, sometimes it feels as if happy people await us wherever we are heading…
Thanks, Oneowner!
I am relieved to hear it is far from over 🙂 Congratulations on your 200th post, Alessandro. This selection of portraits is genuine photography and I love it. Who could resist that kid’s eyes!!
Thanks, Paula! That kid was irresistible and knew he was: i showed him the camera and he struck the perfect pose right away. I think he’s had (and well deserved) a fair bit of experience as a model. 🙂
😀 Fabulous 🙂
What a nice set. Worth looking in your treasure chest. Happy 200, looking forward to see the next 200!
Thanks, Waex. Funny thing is, when i first looked at these photos i saw nothing at all and was completely heartbroken. Looking again after years, well, i kinda liked what i found…
wonderful …
Thank you!
Oh, those brilliant sparkling eyes; beautiful.
There is much joy and beauty in these, Alessandro. I think you make very strong connections with others.
Are these made on a square format film camera or have you cropped them?
Thanks, Karen.
Yes, my travels are indeed more about people than about places. These were taken on regular 35mm film in the rectangular format, and cropped later. So glad you enjoyed them.
200 times amazing
And as many thanks, Covetotop!
thanks Sandro! and for the ones in Rome,”treatment” for me too hhhh bambooleeeeee muamuamua

Muchisimas gracias, Maria! Me alegro que te hayan gustado…
I love the photos. I love how friendly the people of India are and how easy they are to photograph. They are usually not shy.
Thanks, Jeff. Agreed, the outgoing, friendly Indians far outnumber the more shy ones. And they have such striking features…
You got me thinking here… Do we have our photoblogs to impress others? In part, more than I care to admit, I have. You stroke a point, there.
Heartwarming series, Alessandro, especially #1 and #5. Well done!
Thanks, Antonio. I’m really glad you enjoyed these.
I appreciate the value of feedback from fellow bloggers, but looking at these photos taken a few short years ago, when this was not an option, i’m realizing that my photographic approach was quite different. But, who knows, it may be due simply to the normal effects of time going by, or perhaps to the switch to digital…
Again, thanks
I’m heading off there in February for the first time though I won’t have a film camera.
Oh, you’ll love it! I hope you’ll have a digital one though…
I’m expecting to buy a Fuji X-Pro2 or X-E2 system to have something light and compact. It is an Australian Photographic Society tour.
Congratulations on reaching 200…look forward to 2000!!! 🙂 And so nice to see my country from a fresh perspective!! And hope to see more of film photography!! 🙂
Thanks, Know-All. So glad you liked these. Coming from an Indian, this comment is especially gratifying. As soon as time and money conspire, i promise to start burning more film… 🙂
Nice! I always enjoy your pics. And I remain jealous of your ability to get up close & personal travel portraits. I am too shy to ask most people.
Thanks! Actually, i usually just grin like a fool and dangle the camera in front of people. If i get positive feedback, i shoot. Negative or no feedback, no photo…
I will have to give that a try.
Finally got to catch up with my blog reading – what a wonderful post! My favorites are the first and the last. The first, with those shining eyes, reminds me of, at least in quality of image if not emotion, that National Geographic photo of the Afghan girl. Amazing capture!
Hi Ann! My favorites as well. Street portraiture requires a little cheekiness, but with a little luck it can yield surprising images. Thank you very much.
Beautiful set of photographs
Hello, Amy! Thank you so much – glad you enjoyed these.
I really enjoyed your B/W pictures.
Thank you for sharing – following your blog now.
Klaas
Thank you very much for your visit and your kind words, Klaas!
I really love their smile, and the first photo, his eyes are gorgeus!
Thanks and yes – he was really handsome…
O man, I wish I could take pictures like that!
What a lovely compliment – thank you very much!
Wonderful and inspiring photos. Brilliantly presented 🙂
