WHEN IN RAIN – as the Romans do
It does not usually rain in Rome, which makes a wet day somewhat of a special occasion.
True, you do get all wet. But when it’s raining hard, the cobblestones shine and glisten. The light throws no shadows whatsoever. And the artificial lights appear extra bright, under a dark leaden sky. Can’t really think of better circumstances for street photography.
Hope you enjoyed.

I like the color scheme of the first picture…. red, white, black… I’m biased because I use those colors a lot.
…The colors of my bicycle! Thanks 🙂
#7 – very poignant
Really, Rudolf. Thanks.
My thoughts exactly on #7. Another wonderful series, Alessandro.
Thank you, Colleen 🙂
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the first one! So great, I’m taking this pictures & putting them on MY blog, so that I may have them forever. Oh & if I can, I shall Facebook them, I know you love that!-amy
Thanks, Amy. Not really much of a facebook fan, but i appreciate this very much 🙂
I’m sorry, I wont put you on facebook again. Its my friends only. So people from my temple & Vermont friends. About 278 people. No strangers to me.

Beautiful rainy images of Rome!
Thanks for the reblog 🙂
Thanks for making my blog more beautiful!
I also facebooked you & twittered you!
My stats do show increased traffic from facebook – thanks 🙂
For some reason people think I have good taste in stuff!
Awesome photos again 🙂 You can tell a lot by a persons umbrella, who would have thought!
Thanks – yes, anything you wear, use or carry in Italy tends to make some kind of statement, whether one realizes it or not. 🙂
Oh God, it seems that the whole town has stopped cause of the rain.. what is the forecast for November 22 to 25? I am supposed to be there, then as my Andalusia trip fell through 😀
Nah, rome never really stops. It just tends to slow down to a snail’s crawl, sometimes. Sorry about the Andalucia. End november in Rome? Either cold and sunny or wet and warm. Never wet and cold together. 🙂
How cold are we talking about??? 😀
I love being out in the rain taking pictures. These are quite interesting and yes, a bit poignant.
Thanks, Karen. I admit i eventually bought an umbrella, after i was soaked through… 🙂
Beautiful – love especially the first and last one and the one of the person in the wheelchair. Always great work. 🙂
Thanks, Ann. Glad you like them, as shooting them was a fun, but very wet, experience. 🙂
Shiny rainy people.
Having fun? Well, sort of… 😉
Mmmm … Too much perfection in your pictures. I suspect that all those people are professional models hired just for this post … 😉
Dang – i told everyone to act natural, but you caught me out anyway… 😉
Thanks!
I am glad that you chose color – I love the reds in the first photograph!
I’m very glad i did too. The light turned out to be wonderful 🙂
Thank you.
Child in red reminds me of “Don’t look now” and the scrumptious Ms. Christie. Showing my age ;-). Nice shots as always.
Thanks, Andrew. I looked it up, and i did recognize the red cape. Never seen the movie, though. 😉
This set is proofing again, why rain is a friend of the photographer. Lovely pictures, Alessandro.
Thanks Olli. Agreed: there’s no such thing as bad weather in photography. 😉
I enjoyed very much. I colori degli ombrelli e i riflessi della pioggia rendono queste foto magnifiche. Complimenti per non esserti lasciato spaventare dalla pioggia 😉
Thanks!
Paura, mai. Raffreddore, ogni tanto… 😉
Wonderful rain photos. Such rich colours.
I normally do bw in “bad” weather, but this time i was quite surprised at the quality of the light. Thank you 🙂
Great choice to go with color on these, they really pop!
Thank you, Christina. The choice of color sort of made itself 🙂
Great idéa – the rain pictures.
The weather was really miserable – and i just love a challenge…
Thank you, Mirjam! 🙂
Gracias, Manoli 🙂
i thoroughly enjoyed this photo essay– my favorite is the nun on the bus! thank you for sharing your beautiful photography.
Thanks for the visit and the lovely comment, Donna! And agreed: that nun was so adorable… her feet didn’t even reach the ground.
I was feeling nostalgic and had to revisit. It is true what you said about the carts. I’ve seen those in my town too – never changing 🙂
Thanks, Paula. Must admit i’m kind of feeling nostaligc for the photo-eye i had about one year ago… oh, how we change (except for the carts). 🙂
Did you lose it? 😦 Oh no. Please don’t say that :(. Go to Trastevere or better down Tevere and get us some shots of those bent old ladies carrying groceries or going to a mass…
