SAN PEDRO KIDS – young Guatemalans
There is something about the exuberant joyfulness of kids which makes them irresistible photo subjects. In fact, in many places they will actually challenge the photographer to take their picture. Fortunately, young ones also have short attention spans, and they soon return to their normal activities, allowing you to photograph them as they really are.
Photo essay taken in and around San Pedro de la Laguna, on the shores of Guatemala’s Lake Atitlan.
Hope you enjoyed.

All great pictures, but the first one is a masterpiece.
Thank you, Sandro – that one is by far my favorite, as well 🙂
Beautiful photographs!
Thank you!
The first shot is awesome but all convey a sense of fun and are beautifully processed.
Thanks, Andrew. I think the lighter background helps the bw stand out a bit…
Very nice series and I like your new theme.
Thanks, oneowner, the feedback is much appreciated. 🙂
Great collection! First & last are my favorites! I love the horse.
One slow but reliable means of transportation, no doubt. Thank you very much! 🙂
Love them all!
Thanks, Ann.
the first one is exceptional! great work.
Thank you, lostfunzone.
Fantastic photo essay you have posted here. The smiles on the kids faces says it all!
Glad you like them, Fred! 🙂
Fantastic photos, but that horse really need some food and to be taken care of……………………….
Thanks, Bente.
Yes, it seems that several of the animals are a little underweight, in Guatemala. But then again, so are many of the people…
Great shots – especially #1
Thanks, Rudolf. The first is my favorite as well. 🙂
Great series, 1 ,2 and 4 are amazing!
Thanks, waex99. Glad you enjoyed these. 🙂
very nice, thanks for sharing! the first one’s framing is really great!
Thanks, Hannele. That one took a little perseverance and a lot of good luck… 😉
Hole in the wall image – just great!
Haha – yes, that one framed itself… 🙂
Thank you.
beautiful photos, love the hole in the fence and the baby face.
Oh that baby didn’t take his/her eyes off me – which i found quite flattering, actually… 🙂
Thank you.
Beautiful portraits. So much playful joy, yet a bit of an edge.
Thank you. Yes, a slightly bittersweet experience. 🙂
Again, a great series! Not least because of the fine contact you obviously have had with these lovely happy kids ….
I call it jumping right in – they tire of clowning for the camera quite soon, thankfully…
Thank you. 😉

Lovely set Alessandro! Inspired me to blog this: http://wp.me/p1jVlh-Of. 🙂
To provide photographs is any photographer’s job. To be able to provide inspiration, however, is a complete luxury – thank you so much, Olli. 🙂
Ciao, Alessandro! Wonderful set of pictures here…you capture a great mix of action and portraiture. I especially enjoy the first one through the fence; the additional layer is a nice accent to an already dynamic shot. Also, thank you for the nod on my photo! – Ben
Hello Ben, thank you very much – i tried to balance the posed shots with more candid takes. Very glad you liked them 🙂
Great set of pictures! Love the first one
Thanks, iltana. My fave as well… 🙂
Oh, I did enjoy this post very much. These kids have such expressive faces… Loving all of them. This is the first time I see a saddle reinforced with motorcycle tires :O
Thanks – Young Guatemalans are noisy but very polite little guys, as well as being outgoing and friendly. They are impossible not to photograph… 🙂
I enjoy this set. Love the 1:1 presentation as well. Reminds me of the Vivian Maier stuff?~
Thanks, Alan! Vivian Maier – ok, i am officially and immensely flattered.
The 1:1 option was a big reason for choosing the camera in the first place… 🙂
A fantastic series..lovely compositions and great tones. Just love that 1:1 too! Which camera are you using here?
Thank you, i love square pictures too.
The camera is a tiny but tack-sharp Panasonic Lumix (checks camera) DMC-TS3 🙂
very nice series
Thanks, Johan!
Love this, Alessandro! I’ve spend much time in Guatemala, and you’ve captured the beauty and innocence of the children so beautifully. Planning to return to Antigua/Lake Atitlan in October, and can only hope for one shot as inspiring.
Thanks, Maureen. I find the whole area of Lake Atitlan to be truly uplifting – as well as a feast for the eyes – with the ever-changing light and the open friendliness of the locals. A truly excellent, and fortunately underrated, travel destination…
